Today on the Brilliance Beyond Borders podcast I speak with the brilliant Sandra (“Sandee”) Parrado. Sandee has over 18 years of experience in providing advisory services. She is a Partner in PwC’s Forensic Services practice with a focus on investigations of fraud and forensic accounting matters, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act-related investigations, compliance controls analyses and pre-merger due diligence.
Sandra obtained a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and is a Certified Public Accountant.
We discuss her immigrant journey and strategies for women leaders. Here are three gems from our discussion:
Embrace your fullness.
Think back to the early years, senior year of college and interviewing for a job, when we emphasized all the impressive things we’d done. Somewhere along the way, that person suddenly disappears. That person who had so much to bring and was confident about what they can contribute is suddenly just filling in the blank. Embrace your value and don’t downplay your accomplishments.
Don’t put yourself in a box
Sometimes, we put ourselves in the box with whatever labels that either have been given to us, or worse, that we put on ourselves. Remember that you are so much more than the labels you put on yourself.
Represent your unique background.
All your life experiences form who you are. Embrace your point of view. Don't be an empty vessel going into interactions expecting to be filled. Express your point of view and know that your experiences matter.
